Medina Charrette

Common Ground Elements

Common Ground Elements were identified by each of the four re-mixed groups as areas in which there was general agreement among all the groups. Unique ideas are those which were unique to one of the four original groups and were generally considered to be a desirable and compatible additions to the common elements.

Group 1

Common Elements

  • Sell back to original land owners with deed restrictions
  • Preservation of flood plain area
  • Preservation/restoration and adaptive reuse of Watson House
  • Local Control of easements
  • Wildlife management of adjacent areas to the corridor by group of Government, Local, State, and Regional
  • Maximize educational opportunities
  • Public park with emphasis on passive recreation with adequate police
  • Public access to river

Unique Ideas - Compatible with Common Elements

  • View Medina River as a whole
  • Concentrating recreation activities along Watson Road
  • Epochs of agricultural use
  • "Healing Process" - Move Quickly
  • Specific uses canoe, horseback., bike and hike

Group 2

Common Elements

  • Protect continuous river corridor
  • Establish cultural/historic zone (Perez/Watson House Land)
  • Public park and west (natural) with low impact activity
  • Conservation easements
  • On Acquired property returned to private property
  • On unaquired property seek voluntary conservation easements
  • Natural resource education and research
  • Land use/management by public trust with diverse ownership

    (Near the end of the Charrette the participants were asked to identify elements that were discussed in the individual groups, which should be included as additions to the list of Common Elements.)
