Painting of San Antonio in 1836 By George Nelson

In 1836 San Antonio was a frontier European village on an ancient stream named San Antonio for St Anthony.  In 1819 the water rose  from the wall of the Alamo across to San Pedro Creek,  flooding the town, but people continued to build here.
